Yesterday morning as I was getting Norah's breakfast:
Norah: Mommy, why isn't my baby brother coming out yet?
Me: Because it's not time for him to come out yet. In a few more weeks we will meet him.
Norah: Is your belly going to crack open when he comes out? (I couldn't help but giggle)
Me: No, my belly is not going to crack open.
Norah: Is he going to come out of your back?
(Do you see where this is leading?)
Me: No, he's not going to come out of my back.
And wait for it...
Norah: How is he going to get out of your belly?
And I froze.
Me: Uhhh, he's just going to come out.
Yes, it's clear that I don't do well under pressure.
Norah: But, HOW??? (How did I know my genius answer wouldn't be good enough for her?)
Me: Here, your breakfast is ready. Go ahead and eat. (I so bombed this one)
Well, thankfully a fellow parent at Norah's school gave me some great answers to those inevitable questions. Next time I'll be much more prepared. Geez, what am I going to do when I have to have the more involved conversations during the teen years? I better start practicing now...
