baby robins
The Thursday before Easter I noticed a bird's nest outside our bedroom window. I had no idea at that point if it was new or had already been used. Several days later after returning from a trip to PA we discovered that the nest was housing 3 robin eggs. How exciting! And what a fun little learning experience for Norah! Although I think I was just as, if not more, eager to peek out the window every day to check on the progress of the eggs. Being the geek that I am, I started taking pictures.
After some reading, I learned that, if all went well, we could expect to see the baby robins 2 weeks later. Sure enough, 2 weeks went by and on Mother's Day weekend, there were no longer eggs in the nest but 3 baby robins! Norah was thrilled! I attempted to get some more pictures.

Our favorite part of our baby bird watching experience, by far, was when the mommy or daddy bird fed their babies. Although no big deal to most, it was really a special little thing for us to witness. We enjoyed watching the babies grow over the next few weeks.

I learned that we could expect the babies to stay in the nest for about 2 weeks before they left to survive on their own. It was great to hear Norah report her findings every day and we were a little sad that, just as expected, we found the nest to be empty almost 2 weeks exactly after finding that the babies had been born. We certainly had fun with this homemade science lesson and will miss the baby robins. However, no sooner did we turn away from the empty nest outside our window to discover a group of baby groundhogs and their mama curiously sniffing around outside our dining room window... Here we go again! They are very cute to watch, but our border collie is going crazy with all of this activity going on outside, so I hope they will move along soon and burrow somewhere else!
